This year, I will be serving on the Senate for the Class of 2020 as class president.  I am currently involved in the Advancement of Black Culture as the Vice- President, the Rotary Club as the Secretary. I also currently sit on the Public Event and Finance committee chair. I wanted to join the senate because it will be an excellent opportunity for me to see beyond the schoolwork, giving me an opportunity to see ways in which I can see what I can do for my student body. I am also very passionate about social justice / social change and I wanted to be a part of an organization that can be the change that we wanted to see on campus. I believe that being a part of the Senate can teach me the value of teamwork, while we can all probably can things done on our own it becomes so much more meaningful and impactful when we do them together as one. Giving back to others means so much to me and I believe this is an opportunity for me to give back to Allegheny after all that it has given me. I believe that being a part of the Senate can teach me the value of teamwork, while we can all probably can things done on our own it becomes so much more meaningful and impactful when we do them together as one.  While serving on the Senate, I have worked together with my fellow senates to create a better space for all Allegheny students. I look forward to all the great things that we have in store for this year, Allegheny will never be the same!

Vice President

Ashley Leonard

Community Relations Committee

Hello! My name is Ashley Leonard and I am a Senior here at Allegheny.  I am from Latrobe, Pennsylvania and am double majoring in Political Science and English with an emphasis in Creative Writing along with a Psychology minor.  After graduation, I plan on pursuing a career as an Entrepreneur and may attend Law School.  In High School, I held the positions of Secretary and Vice-President for Key Club during my Junior and Senior years.  For eight years, I have acted as a Team Captain for Latrobe’s American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life.  My time here at Allegheny has been spent engaging in classes, getting to know students and professors, and working with the community.  My Senior Comprehensive project will focus on the elderly.  My Freshman year, I became a member of The Law and Policy Program.  My Sophomore year I was an RA in Caflisch Hall and my Junior year, I was Head RA of Baldwin Hall.  I am also involved in The Allegheny Review as a reader and The Outing Club.

It is an honor to be given the opportunity to be the Allegheny Student Government’s Class of 2020 Vice President. I look forward to working with my fellow Senators to improve student life here at Allegheny College.  I am excited to begin planning Senior Week!  Last year, I worked on the Student Affairs Committee where we worked tirelessly to start a pilot program with a feminine product dispenser located in the Campus Center bathroom.  We also worked to expand the Student Discount program at downtown businesses.  I would like to increase communication between students and their class Senators so we can act as advocates for them.  I believe fostering good relations between students and their representatives will allow us to work together on issues impacting the school community. Another goal of mine is to work hard to improve the Allegheny College Campus.  I would like to see more lights installed around campus, better accessibility to academic and residence halls for students with disability and injury, and overall improvement to residence halls.  As a Senator, I am excited to begin working with fellow students, staff, and faculty to make Allegheny College the safest and best campus it can be.
